Walks

John Skelton was a prolifict artist who cut thousands of inscriptions in stone and wood. He also created many sculptures in a variety of media. He drew extensively and painted in watercolour. He first worked in Lewes and Burgess Hill before moving to Streat, three miles from Ditchling.

This was to be his home, life and work for over 40 years. Naturally, therefore, much of his work found its way to Sussex locations: Churches and cemeteries, Chichester Cathedral, civic buildings and business premises, public and private collections. This guide is a small selection of publicly-sited work in the couny. A few locations have restricted public access so permission should be sought before viewing. There are many other works throughout the UK, particularly in the Cathedrals of Winchester, Norwich, St Paul's and Westminster Abbey, London.There is also work in North America and Europe. (Places are listed alphabetically.
